I have spent most of my life living by Little Hunting Creek, experiencing its natural beauty both as a child and as an adult. As a child living in Stratford Landing, I enjoyed paddling in plastic and wooden boats, jumping from hidden rope swings, and savoring the pungent, earthy scent that defined the Creek.  In adulthood, living in First River Farms for over 30 years, I continue to find great solace in the serene surroundings of Little Hunting Creek- walking along the creek, paddling its waters, and observing the ever-changing scenery and fascinating wildlife.

I am a retired Fairfax County Public School Teacher, with 35 years of service in Virginia. I have a BA in Early Childhood Education and Psychology, MEd in Special Education, and doctoral work focused on Educational Policy.  I am driven by a passion for learning and sharing knowledge. I cherish the profound beauty of the natural world and feel a strong responsibility to protect it. This desire to preserve the environment is matched with a commitment to fostering community involvement and access to Little Hunting Creek so that others may also appreciate and enjoy its unique qualities.  I hope to encourage others to understand the significance of preserving and protecting the Creek and its wetlands.

I am the mother of three wonderful daughters and the grandmother of three delightful granddaughters. I enjoy participating in several organizations, including Friends of Dyke Marsh, United Women of Faith, and the Adventure Club.

Friends of Little Hunting Creek is a grassroots, volunteer-led organization that began as a group of genuinely concerned neighbors living near the creek. We need your help to protect this beautiful place – join us today!

Our vision is a beautiful, healthy creek that supports wildlife living in it and along its shores, and provides recreation and respite to humans that live nearby. We envision a shared sense of community responsibility for the health of the Little Hunting Creek watershed and appreciation for its beauty.
