Creek Cleanup on April 5th!

Volunteers needed!

Spring is upon us, so it’s time to clean the trash out of Little Hunting Creek.

Please join volunteers and neighbors from 9 a.m. to noon at a cleanup site. We supply gloves and plastic bags.

Fort Hunt Elementary School

Meet near the tennis courts beside Fort Hunt Elementary School, on Linton Lane. Contact: Donna Stauffer, donnastauffer56@gmail.com .

Colonel John Byers Park

The park is at 2213 Collingwood Rd. (between Candlewood Dr. and Karl Rd. on the south side of Collingwood). Meet at the playground area of the park and proceed along the creek to the beaver dam and beyond. Contact: Greg Crider, gregdcrider@aol.com.

Audubon Estates

Please RSVP here, and meet at the basketball court in Audubon Estates (behind 3332 Pelican Place). Contact: Renee Grebe, renee.grebe@natureforward.org or 703-261-4668 on the day of.

Janna Lee Avenue bridge

Join Senator Scott Surovell and Delegate Paul Krizek to help clean up the trashiest spot on Little Hunting Creek.  Meet at the Janna Lee Avenue bridge (nearest intersection is Tamarind Ave. and Janna Lee Ave).  RSVP here.

Mount Vernon Plaza

Join Senator Scott Surovell and Delegate Paul Krizek at Mt. Vernon Shopping Plaza near the Sherwin Williams Paint Store (7644 Fordson Rd). RSVP here.

Riverside Park, on the George Washington Parkway

We’ll be cleaning up trash along the Potomac shoreline.  Rubber boots recommended. Bathrooms are available. Meet at the picnic tables. Contact:  Alyssa Schaaf, 801-597-5911.

Potomac River shoreline

A fleet of kayaks will be collecting trash along the shoreline between River Farm Road and the pedestrian bridge south of Cedar Knoll.  If you’ve got a canoe or kayak and want to join, text Mark Miller at 202-590-7761.

Community credit hours are provided for students who bring their forms.

What to Wear and Bring

    Sturdy waterproof shoes or rubber boots or old sneakers (most sites are muddy).

    Long pants and long sleeves (some sites have poison ivy).

    Water, and a hat or sun protection (some sites are exposed).
